JOB: The Clinical Educator, under the direction of the Director of Clinical Education, will provide professional development, coordinate and implement educational services to health care professionals interested in enhancing their skills and knowledge in the field of HIV/AIDS.

ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE currently employs a team of Statisticians, Programmers, Data Managers, Clinical Research Assistants, Data Analysts and Data Entry Clerks who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies. The BC-CfE is a world renown HIV/AIDS Research Centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To research, support and implement courses and teaching activities related to the professional development in the field of HIV/AIDS
  • Provides evidence-based studies, policies and procedures to maintain state of the art management and treatment of HIV-positive patients
  • Applies for Continuing Education credits for courses given to health care providers by the BC-CfE Provides cost analysis and benefits, justifying budget needs for the provision of ongoing health care professional education in BC
  • Assists in the planning and provision of the regular HIV CME events (AIDS care rounds, patient care rounds, mortality and morbidity rounds, IDC Journal Clubs)
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the inter-professional HIV/AIDS courses
  • Acts as formal/informal consultant assisting with integration of new learning into nursing, social worker and other health professional practices
  • Serves as a resource assisting health care professionals that consult with the BC-CfE regarding educational needs and planning
  • Performs other related duties as required

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s or PhD level in a health care-related discipline
  • Three or more years’ experience in Continuing Education in the medical and health care-related field
  • Clinical experience in management of HIV-positive individuals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, creative and open to new ideas
  • Strong knowledge base in theory of teaching, learning and evaluation process
  • Ability to design curriculum and programs, and assess learner needs

--Randomized Control Trial Research Coordinator--

Urban Health Research Initiative

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE)

JOB: Working under the direction of the Co-Directors of the Urban Health Research Initiative (UHRI) and Principal Investigators of UHRI initiated Randomized Control Trials (RCTs), the RCT Research Coordinator assists in the planning, development and implementation of several addiction medicine RCTs initiated by UHRI.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates development, implementation and maintenance of the RCTs, including research operations management and liaison with pharmacy staff for medication preparation and dispensation
  • Oversees research instrument development, data collection, data management and data entry
  • Oversees recruitment and follow-up of study participants, program delivery, follow up and outreach activities
  • Establishes, updates and maintains research databases and source document worksheets (e.g. pre-study checklist, participant visits, etc.)
  • Contributes to the establishment of and oversees safety monitoring protocols and reporting of adverse events and safety related issues
  • Maintains strict confidentiality related to participant identification and release of research data
  • Keeps Principal Investigators informed of any study related problems or trends in research data
  • Contributes to the design and creation of communications and public relations tools; coordinates meetings among community, staff, research teams and support staff
  • Assists Principal Investigators, research managers and financial coordinator with various administrative tasks and the day-to-day operations of the RCTs
  • May work closely with professionals in the community and be involved in creating publicity to promote research, providing information to and between a wide range of organizations and groups
  • Administrative work, which may include written correspondence, preparing submissions and reports
  • Other duties as appropriate

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Social Work, Social Sciences, or related field
  • Minimum two years of related professional experience in a health research setting
  • Clear understanding of the RCT research process acquired through both practical and academic experience
  • Experience in organizing, coordinating and managing research projects and/or grant based programs, and supervising data collection activities
  • Experience in grant application and administrative document preparation
  • Experience with addictions, and/or poverty in the Downtown East Side (DTES) or comparable community an asset
  • Excellent project organization, implementation and networking skills
  • Experience in supervising other staff (including scheduling and performance evaluation)
  • Experience in preparing documents, reports and communication materials for mass distribution
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity issues, with a commitment to social inclusion
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Access database management; Word, Excel, Intraweb, database proficiency; graphics capability
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
