Aranka Anema

Research Assistant, Doctoral Student

Aranka Anema is a PhD student working with the Drug Treatment Program as well as the AIDS Research Program, a collaboration between St. Paul's Hospital and UBC. There she conducts community-based research in a national cohort of people living with HIV/AIDS across Canada. Her doctoral work seeks to assess the socio-demographic, behavioral and clinical predictors of food insecurity among people living with HIV/AIDS in Canada, and to ascertain the impact of food insecurity on HIV-positive people's health and survival. Findings from this study will inform best practices for the support and care of people living with HIV/AIDS in high and low-resource countries.

Aranka is the recipient of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Vanier Award and Canadian Observational Cohort Collaboration Award.
