The HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to grow internationally, infecting an ever-growing number of people, including approximately 350 British Columbians each year.
The British Columbia Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE) is committed to improving the health of all HIV-positive British Columbians through the development and dissemination of comprehensive research and treatment programs for HIV and related diseases.
Since the BC-CfE’s establishment in 1992, the Centre has grown to become a world leader in cutting-edge HIV/AIDS research. Our internationally recognized team of inter-disciplinary professionals is unique in North America for its integration of treatment, education, research, and the procurement and distribution of life-saving antiretroviral medications.
In the 1990s, BC-CfE researchers were at the forefront of the effort to establish Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) as the international standard of care. Recently, the BC-CfE has undertaken an ambitious program to dramatically reduce HIV transmission by expanding HAART access to all clinically eligible individuals in British Columbia. Through these initiatives the BC-CfE continues to be a provincial, national, and international leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
We have developed this strategic plan to guide our efforts over the next five years as we strive to meet the evolving challenges posed by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
