Rapporteur Summaries

The first annual Treatment as Prevention Workshop was hosted on May 4-6, 2011 by the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, and co-hosted by the International AIDS Society, Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, World Health Organization, and National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The Workshop was dedicated to critically reviewing research related to the secondary preventive benefit (as it relates to HIV and TB transmission) of expanding highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) coverage among HIV infected individuals, commonly referred as “Treatment as Prevention” (TasP).

The Workshop served as a focal point for researchers involved in Treatment as Prevention to share data, protocols and findings, and to foster an open collaborative environment regarding this important emerging area of research. Presentations from researchers from around the world reviewed the evidence to date, described work currently underway and planned, identified areas of potential synergy as well as highlighting possible gap areas, where further targeted research efforts may be needed.
